Question 7

7-Looking Back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Question 6 - Technology

6-  a) what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

For this question, Georgina and Danica discussed the programmes we used when producing our thriller. The main programmes that we used were Photoshop, final cut pro and Garage band.

This is an introduction of Final Cut Pro.

Here, Georgina is explaining how we used garageband. We used garageband to create our soundtrack for our thriller film.

Here Danica explains how to we used photoshop, We used photoshop to edit our police documents that were used throughout the opening sequence of our film.

Here, Danica explains the search engines we used and how we used blogger as our book to display all of our research and planning we did throughout producing our thriller.
Throughout our thriller we used different types of programmes to try and get the best result for our thriller, photoshop helped us make the police documents look quite old and when adding the effect over the top - bad film - they helped make the thriller look mysterious. Also final cut pro helped us to put all of our thriller together and tweak up any loose ends. If we were to do this task again, we would use the same programme as it helped to make our thriller effective.

b) For the next part of the question, Georgina & Danica explained the equipment that we used in our thriller:

Here, Danica is explaining the camera that we used to film our thriller.

Georgina is explaining the kind of lights that we used.

& Lastly, Danica explains the tape that we used in our camera and where she brought it from.

Question 5

5-How did you attract/address your audience?

When finishing our Thriller we had to make sure we got feedback so we knew what we did right and what we needed to change if ever do it again.
We put our thriller up on to You Tube so that it can be watching by anyone around the world, and anyone can feedback. We have also gave the web address to everyone we know so they can have a look at what we have completed.

We did get a comment on our You Tube and it was from A film director him self.

Question 4

4-Who would be the audience for your media product?

Question3

3-What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

There are 2 main music distributers that we wanted to produce our film, however as they only produce high budget films it means we had to think about the lower budget film producers as we only had a small budget to create our film, such as Metrodome. The first distributer is Universal and the second is Metro Goldwyn Mayer.

Question 2

1-How does your media product represent particular social group?

Andrea Nicholls
Age: 17
Occupation: Photographer

Age: 58
Occupation: Killer
I have decided to compare Andrea who is the Photographer in our thriller film the ending to the character known as Kim Basinger. The reasons why I have decided to compare these two is because there are many similarities between them.
Andrea in the film takes pictures of her murder victims and places her next victim on the murdered person. In the LA Confidential, Kimila Basinger who is known in the film as Lynn Bracken. She is the killer in the film. Everyone else in the film got the blame for the killing. In our thriller film Andrea is very mysterious and isn’t seen much. There are some parts in which they are not the same, there costumes in which they wear are not the same. Kim Basinger in the film wears very tight revealing costumes. Andrea in our thriller film wears all black and very dark clothing.
Here is a Picture of Kim Basinger:

Kimila Ann Basinger

Question 1

Question 1- In what was does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The characters:

The location:

The fonts:

 1. For the first font, I chose one called Acogessic, I chose this because it is bold and looks like part of it has been shot with a gun which fits in well with our thriller film.

2. This title also fits in well with our theme of photography as it looks like the effect we used - bad film/tv.

3. This font was called Ball Tongue and it was not one of our final choices, as it didnt fit in that well with the theme of our thriller.
4.  This title is called Puls Sans Virgin, it also refers back to the effect we used throughout the thriller, bad film/tv.
5. This title was one of our personal favourites called, Headshot as it went in well with the theme of photography and also filming in general as it looks like a clapper board which would attract an audience, however we didn't end up using it. It also refers to the name of a shot which refers back to photography.
6. This title also looks like it has been shot at with a gun which relates back to our thriller film.
7. We didnt really like this font in the end as it didnt really fit in well with the theme of our thriller and was too basic, it wouldn't interest the audience as much as the others would so we decided against using it.
8. Sacraficial also is another interesting title that we thought about using as it looks quite mysterious and so it would refer back to the mysterious character in our thriller.
9. This title is called, Dinstik and didn't really fit in well with our thriller but as it was quite bold and stood out we thought it would look good in our film, however we didnt use it.

We decided against using any of these fonts as it was quite tricky to transfer them over to final cut pro, and also we were of limited time which means it would of taken too long to try and download these first and then try and use them in our thriller. In the end we decided to use quite a basic yet effective font called Typewriter, it fitted in well with our theme and was quite mysterious at the same time. If we were to do this task again, I think we would use either Ball Tongue or Headshot as they went well with the theme of our thriller, being photography and mystery.

Planning Question 7

For question 7, we will be filming this one also, but will have pieces of card and an object (e.g a ruler) to hold the signs up which will have Q&A on them.

Planning Question 6

For question 6, we decided we are going to film it - all three of us will be contributing. In the pictures below, it shows what each of us will be doing & saying.

planning Question 5

Georgina was assigned this question
How did you attract/address your audience?
- Now we have worked out from question 4 who our target audience is, we can now determine how we have attracted the audience for our film.
- Speaking over our thriller video, talking about what aspects draw the audience in.

planning Question 4

Georgina was assigned this question
Who would be the audience for your media product?

- Do a survey:
*what film genre do most people prefer watching?
* How is the soundtrack important in a opening sequence?
* We will also be asking what age range the audience are and the gender; this would help to determine who would watch our film.
- Finding this information out will help us determine who our audience are, this could help us in the future if we was to film again, we would be able to know who our target audience are.

Planning Question 3

Andrea was assigned to this question
What kind of media institution might distribute your media project and why?

- Talk about industries that produce successful thriller films

We have done some research on production companies that have produced successful thriller films, the four that have stood out to us are:
  • Metro Goldwyn Mayer
  • Paramount Pictures - Shutter Island
  • New Line Cinema - Se7en
  • 20th Century Fox
We have worked out that these companies are well known by all ages and we have done a survey to determine which one of these four stand out most when watching them.
Here is our survey:

- Why they would produce our film
We would like 20th Century Fox to produce our thriller film but as they only produce high budget films, we are unable to use them as our production company because of our low budget.
- Talk about how their logos stand out to the audience e.g Universal
- Do a survey on what logos the audience think are most appealing.

Planning Question 2

Danica was assigned to this question
How does your media product represent particular social groups?

- Relate our characters in our film to real life characters/actors in the film industry.
- Where do your characters fit into the social groups? e.g teenagers, elderly people etc..
- Explain why you thought the characters matched up to the real life characters and why we used them.

All this could help determine what kind of audience our film is attracting and who it is aimed at.

I have looked at other thriller films and I have decided that the murder should be related to a lady in the film LA Confidental, this character is called Kim Basinger, she plays a lady called Lynn Margaret Bracken The character is french but the things in which she does in the film is what the murder does in our film taking picture of people then getting someone to do the dirty work for her!!!

The other Charater in the film the dog walker. In the film LA Confidental there is an officer who is like the dog walker in our film,. he wears Plainclothesand acts like a proper detective in the film. The officers name in the film is Wendell Bud White. This character I feel is really good because he finds the dead bodies just like the dog walker in our film.

Planning Question 1

Andrea has been assigned to this question

Question: in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of the real media products?

What we will be speaking about in question 1:
- Why we have used the fonts we used; www.dafont.com - Andrea
We used the fonts we did because i found that it gave a good thriller edge to the titles, and these match the genre in which we were going for. I used www.dafont.com because some of my other group member’s were talking to older students that have used this website before and they recommended it. When on this website i discovered various good styles of fonts but the one i chose stood out the best.
- Why we used the location we did - Georgina
The reason in which we chose to shoot our thriller film in the location we did is because, Georgina lives there and she knew that there would not be anyone one walking though our scene and there wouldn't be screaming kids of loud people passing, that would interrupt us. We needed this because we were setting the scene that the killer has placed the car in a quite and cut off place (not were people normally go)
- Why did we use the actors and costumes - Danica
The reason why we sued the actors that we did was because, we found that they suited the character that we were trying to out across in our film.
We used women as the killers because we wanted to portray the male gaze but though a women's eyes. This shows the women are more powerful in our film.
- I am going to get 9 screen shots from our film and talk about each one of them step by step by using these points above.

Adding Titles

In the group, I took on the role of completing the title sequence, I had to decide whereabouts the titles would go in each scene and what effects I think would look best over them. I used the programme final cut, to place in the correct places. At first I had to experiment on the programme so I could get used to using it, but then I started to add the real titles and effects. I thought it was quite tricky at times and if i could do it again i would make sure to take more time and choose different effects.. one of my favourite effects was the bad film, as it made the shots look more like a thriller. I chose to use this all the way through.
